I have been a part of the skate world from childhood, and stayed in the streets on those darling metal beauties with the skate key. And in the 70's when there was that dusty wood floor, fountain soda, rails and organ music sessions. Oh and the wall signs, that displayed anything from "All Skate, Couples, Kids to Advance"

Then came the 80's surge of skating rinks to open. My father was thrilled to see the energy... coming from a generation where people of color were not welcomed within the skating community. Hence...he became a figure skater on purpose, to push the envelope.

He shared the early childhood stories of using skates as a means of transportation to and from school in Augusta GA, and would routinely get run off the road side by pickup trucks. This didn't stop him, it just fueled him more. I'm not sure at what point in life, he ventured into the world of figure skating, but he did and was pretty accomplished "is what I heard"

My first pair of rink skates were the women's 220 Riedells with Snyder plates & all American plus wheels. They lasted about 6 months... as in... "I hated them", because they got scuffed up quickly with all the spills I made onto the floor.

So, along came the upgrade to a Men's 192, same plate, but now with bone wheels and German bearings.. Fafner I believe. Still got the old set up. They're about 40 years old.

Fast forward, 2002, I took a spill to a drunk skater at the New Skate Key and sustained a knee injury that took me out of the Skate Circuit for a good minute, that and raising children. I returned to the scene at Hot Skates in 2017 "now in my 50's" and never looked back. It's just sad that they had to close their doors.

Back in the day, I travel skated before it became a thing..."I guess" I was always in Jersey... "The Rink and Twin City... Now that was a RINK for ya... I think it was bigger than Holiday... I also skated in Florida at "Reflections" Whenever the family vacationed, I carried my skates. Back then, they wouldn't allow you to skate backwards.. OMG Imagine that.

I am a Licensed Behavioral Health Care Professional, and also hold Certifications in Nutrition Health and Skate Instruction.

Mission- keep roller skating alive, & being innovative and positively impact the skating community.
