Hi, I'm Lee McFee. My skate roots trace back to my teen years in NYC, the heyday, late 70's and 80's - Goodskates, Central Park, Roxy where I was a Solar Roller then worked for a few years; which has me blessed to have awesome memories/experiences; have skated with many legendary skater and fortunate to call many friend or skate family to this day. Like many, career and kids took me from regularly spending time on the hardwood for some years until I found myself searching for a workout. 2014ish working in IT, flying a desk for years, had my 40 inch waisted jeans tight, on 2 high blood pressure medicines, afraid to get on the scale - I had visited the local rink with my daughter (even witnessing a first, a blind man with a can on the floor) but found the coated concrete surface to be too rough on my knees. I mentioned the visit to the rink to a new co-worker when he shared - they just laid down hardwood at the rink - the skate gods work in mysterious ways.
Shortly after, my love affair with the hardwood was rekindled, the Adult night is Tuesday at the rink, it soon became known in my house as Skatuesday and led to being joked that a blind hitman could find me in Austin without issue by going to the rink that night. When the world stopped due to COVID, I took my skates outside and was thunderstuck - yeah, I was on my roller skates but it wasn't "Right"; skating involves others, interacting with them as you navigate the flow of the rink!; the song in my headphones was yet another talking about the lack of supporting our own community, damn how many of these are there?
These days, a couple of nights a week you'll find me at a rink in Central Texas - rolling wearing 34 inch shorts (for the first time since middle school, by skating hard 3 hours or so, once a week until recently). As a SIN moderator I look to actively support and promote roller skating and those people sharing the same passion for the hardwood - but I need your help to break that cycle of songs, so please do a part in supporting the skate community and your skate family. I look forward to sharing more of my OG roots/observations and roller skating experiences. Roll Strong and ride that damn beat!
